(Mill Bay BC—12/21/2020) Mill Bay Community League today donated a $1000 to the CMD Food Bank in lieu of hosting its annual community Christmas party.
The Mill Bay Community League has hosted an annual Christmas party with singing, music and drama for the last 71 years. This year, however, the League had to cancel the community party due to the ongoing Covid crisis.
“Since the annual League Christmas party is cancelled this year, we’ve decided to support our local food bank. Many Mill Bay/Malahat residents will avail of this community support and we wanted there to be a silver lining to the pandemic. We also encourage other local service organizations to support the CMS Food Bank in lieu of their annual Christmas parties.” said Shane Ryan President, Mill Bay Community League.
Food banks across Canada have been severely impacted by COVID-19. They are facing increased demand for support, and operational capacity is strained. Many have seen drastic reductions in their food recovery efforts as well as a significant drop in volunteers. Yet, they are working tirelessly to serve those who rely on their services.
"We would like to take this time to recognize and thank all employees and volunteers currently on the front lines working to meet the basic needs of our most vulnerable community members," said Norm Wills, Vice President, Mill Bay Community League.
